Sir Michael Stoute

List of horses in training

Sir Michael Stoute began training in 1972. His first Classic victory came six years later with Fair Salinia in the 1978 Oaks and, ever since, he has been producing top-class winners. He now trains from two yards on opposite sides of the Bury Road in Newmarket, Freemason Lodge and Beech Hurst. Champion Trainer for the tenth time in 2006, he has won twenty four classics in England and Ireland, including four Epsom Derby wins with Shergar, Sharastani, Kris Kin, three Breeders Cups, two Japan Cups and the Dubai World Cup.

Sir Michael has been a trainer for HTR since its inception with champions such as Petrushka whose wins included the Irish Oaks (Gr 1), the Yorkshire Oaks (Gr 1) and Prix de l'Opera-Hotel du Lac Barriere (Gr 1) and the Cartier Award for the Champion Three Year Old Filly; and Delilah winner of The Princess Royal (Gr 3) at Ascot and Champion Three Year Old Staying Filly in Europe. Distinction, winner of the Goodwood Cup in 2007 and second in the Gold Cup in 2005, was finally retired in 2008 following a Listed success at Sandown earlier in the season. This year the talented filly Laughter remains in training as well as the potentially interesting unraced three year old Harbinger.
