The Buchan

Owned by the second Viscount Astor, this colt was narrowly beaten when second in both The 2000 Guineas and The Derby of 1919. Despite being odds on for the St Leger he was a disappointing third but as a four year old he came into his own winning The Eclipse Stakes and The Champion Stakes. He also won the Ascot Gold Cup but was disqualified for interference!

I thought that this looked a really cracking trainer combination. William has been with us since I started HTR in 1992 and has been responsible for the German 2000 Guineas winner Brunel, the Classic Trial Stakes winner Primary and the Gimcrack and the Stewards Cup winner Conquest. He also trained one of our 2008 Royal Ascot winners Collection. Ed has trained numerous top class horses including the great race mare Ouija Board.
