Although his father Lord Randolph Churchill had been a member of The Jockey Club and owned The Oaks winner L'Abbesse de Jouarre, Sir Winston did not re-register his colours until he was in opposition after the Second World War when he was seventy-five years old. He was successful with Colonist II who won The Jockey Club Cup as well as with High Hat who went on to sire the outstanding Arc winner Vaguely Noble. The Jockey Club commissioned this portrait of him by Frank Salisbury in 1953.
The Sir Winston Churchill is our most exclusive syndicate with only ten shares and this syndicate also has the highest average price per yearling of 120,000 Guineas. Sir Michael Stoute is our principal trainer and has been champion nine times. His many successes for Highclere include our great filly Petrushka, winner of The Kildangan Stud Irish Oaks, as well as Highest who finished second in the St Leger. In the past ten years Jeremy Noseda has shown that he could well be a champion trainer in the making having already handled two Classic winners including the John Warren bought 2006 St Leger winner Sixties Icon.
This syndicate is fully subscribed.
