CELEBRITY SPOT - BEN FOGLE

The latest name from the world of TV and entertainment to get involved in racing is Ben Fogle, who is described on his website as a writer, presenter and adventurer.

He has been involved in producing TV shows such as CountryFile, Holiday and One Man & His Dog. He has also headed out on various adventure trips and completed such mad enterprises as rowing across the Atlantic and heading to the South Pole with James Cracknell.

He explains why he has become attracted to all things horseracing:

Have you owned horses before?
This is the first time that I have ever owned, or part-owned a racehorse and it's been incredibly exciting so far.

What is your interest in racing?
I have been interested in racing for a number of years now. My wife and her family have been involved in eventing and I liked the idea of investing in a racehorse.

What made you decide to get involved and why Highclere?
I always thought it would be great fun to own a racehorse and I was introduced to Harry Herbert a while ago and he was talking to me about the Highclere set-up. Harry's enthusiasm sold it to me and after attending the parades this year at Highclere Castle, I have been bowled over by the team's professionalism. Listening to John Warren explain the reasons for each of the yearling's purchase was fascinating and I was delighted to meet William Haggas who will be training one of the horses in the syndicate I am involved with. I can see that I am going to have a lot of fun!

Will you have time to go the race in between filming and trips around the World?
Indeed, the idea behind owning a racehorse is the excuse to get out and about with my wife, Marina. I spend a large amount of time working overseas but there will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy races in between.
