Oratory showed plenty of promise as a two year old, winning his maiden before taking his chance in the Solario Stakes (Gr 3) at Sandown. He failed to sparkle on that occasion and was subsequently found to have suffered a minor injury. Oratory returned to action at York as a three year old in a very competitive six furlong handicap where he put up a creditable performance but affter a lacklustre run at Lingfield, he was found to have pulled a muscle and put away for the rest of the season. He remains a lightly raced horse with plenty of scope to improve and win more races.

Oratory finished fourth at Newmarket on 7th August and once again ran a very consistent race. Pat Dobbs let him bowl along on the outside of the field and he travelled supremely well throughout. In the closing stages, he was one of the last runners to come off the bridle and as Pat asked him to quicken, he seemed to just stay on at one pace and although a little leg weary, he ran all the way to the line.

Oratory spent the remainder of August at Malcolm Bastard's spelling yard in Lambourn doing two canters a day so he lost little in fitness terms but the change of scenery has done him the world of good. He will return to Richard's at the beginning of September and hopefully it won't be long before he returns to racecourse action.
