On Warren Hill in May 2010
A particularly good looking son of first season sire Cacique and a rare commodity as only twenty eight of his foals came on the market last year. Dominant settled in well with Michael but in the Spring had a bout of coughing so he was on a trotting regime for a while. By June, Dominant was in good form and progressing well physically, beginning to fill to his frame and generally stronger all round.
By the end of June, Dominant was in good form and doing two canters up Warren Hill. The horse has grown again and still a little up behind, which is to be expected for a colt with his size and scope but it would suggest that he is going to be very much a back-end starter so he will continue doing steady canters for the time being. By early July, he looked much stronger through his shoulder and quarters. He is quite a big horse and so Michael will continue to bring him along steadily. Hopefully, he will be strong enough to have a couple of runs this year before coming into his own as a three year old.
By early August he had done well physically and looks a much stronger horse, having strengthened up considerably behind the saddle. Michael has now moved him up a gear and recently he did his first piece of half speed work. Michael was very pleased with the way he went and he thinks that if Dominant continues to hold his strength he could be ready to make his debut in the early part of September.
