Sire sensation Montjeu, whose short career at stud has already produced a world champion in Hurricane Run in 2005 and Derby winner Motivator in the same year, is highly sought after at the sales and John Warren was delighted to be able to buy this cracking colt at Goffs in Ireland for 90,000 Euros.
This is a lovely big horse who will need some time to mature and there was no rush to get him into full training but he really does fill the eye and if looks and pedigree are anything to go by, he will really be one to look forward to. By early Spring, he looked in terrific shape with an amazing bloom to his skin and although still a horse who will take some time to mature physically, he nonetheless is very eye-catching both in the indoor ride and out at exercise on Warren Hill. This colt really is the most striking individual who simply floats up Warren Hill. He has a great attitude and Sir Michael and his team have been very happy with him since he arrived at Freemason Lodge. By the beginning of July, he progressed to one canter up Warren Hill and Sir Michael will be increasing his exercise up to two canters shortly. By early August Academy looked in fantastic shape; he is beginning to mature well and did his second piece of half speed work recently. He and one other went up Long Hill on the grass and Academy went well within himself, traveling nicely and finding the whole exercise very easy. If he continues at this rate there is every chance that he could make his debut towards the middle of October.
