Leading first season sire Shamardal has prize money earnings of over £1,250,000 and a strike rate of over 30% runners to winners. This strong colt looks sure to be making an impression as a two year old.

Quadrant is a lovely well balanced colt who has a great attitude to his work and he was very sensible when doing his first canter up the grass gallop at Manton. By late Spring, he continued to make significant physical progress, filling into his frame and strengthening up. During June, however, the horse infuriatingly knocked himself so had a couple of weeks box rest before resuming exercise. Brian has been extremely happy with the progress of Quadrant to date, and having learnt all the basics, is not overly concerned by this minor setback. He returned to cantering exercise in July and continued to do steady canters. By early August, Brian was still not entirely happy with Quadrant's progress and after thorough veterinary examination, it was decided to give the horse one month's box rest at Malcolm Bastard's spelling yard near Lambourn. It is frustrating as this means that he is unlikely to make the racecourse this turf season but Quadrant really is a lovely scopey horse who is all about next year; he is highly regarded by his trainer so we must give him the time to get him right now.
