First season sire Cacique is a full brother to Dansili who himself has sired several Group One performers including Rail Link and Passage of Time. By early Spring he had begun to thrive physically and is swiftly becoming a very important colt to look at out at exercise. This horse has a lovely quality look about him and it is easy to see why Richard Hughes was impressed when he rode him for the first time.

In the Spring, we decided to give Census a break from training so he came back to Highclere Stud which enabled him to get through the next growth spurt without the pressures of daily training. He returned to Richard Hannon at the end of May and really benefited physically from his break. He really is the most lovely looking individual with a quality look about him and although he will need time to fully strengthen, Richard and his team always talk highly of the horse. Since then, he has been doing steady canters and was ridden by Richard Hughes in a half speed piece of work at the end of June. Richard feels that Census is a lovely horse in the making who should not be rushed and suggested that he should probably be started over a mile and was very much a three year old in the making.

Census really thrived during July and by early August looked a much stronger animal. This improvement is partly attributable to Tony Gorman, Richard’s head lad, who advised a change in diet which has clearly had a beneficial effect. Richard is delighted with the progress that Census has made to date and has identified possible debut opportunities at Bath and Doncaster on 9th September as well as Ffos Las on 12th September.
