Oratory showed plenty of promise as a two year old, winning his maiden before taking his chance in the Solario Stakes (Gr 3) at Sandown. He failed to sparkle on that occasion and was subsequently found to have suffered a minor injury. Oratory returned to action at York as a three year old in a very competitive six furlong handicap where he put up a creditable performance but affter a lacklustre run at Lingfield, he was found to have pulled a muscle and put away for the rest of the season. He remains a lightly raced horse with plenty of scope to improve and win more races.
Oratory really should have won at Glorious Goodwood on 28th July and, despite being trapped in behind horses at a critical time, still had time to quicken up to win once Richard Hughes extricated him but did not concentrate and finished third. He looked magnificent in the parade ring and he has never looked better before a race so it was immensely frustrating that he took such a leisurely attitude which effectively denied him a victory. He will be fitted with blinkers next time he runs to help him focus on his task.
