A son of the mighty Galileo, Sir Walter Raleigh was always going to come into his own as at three year old. He is an eye-catching horse with a very good action but needed time to mature. He made his debut in very soft ground at Nottingham towards the end of last season where he put up a an encouraging performance to finish fourth. He looks open to plenty of improvement this season.
Sir Walter Raleigh was closest at the line when finishing fourth at Lingfield on 21st July. He broke well and Ryan Moore wanted to take advantage of his good draw and ride him prominently but unfortunately he was shuffled back on the rail so sat mid-division with Ryan having to ride him along to make sure that he held his position. The winner had kicked for home as they turned into the straight and it looked at this point as if Sir Walter would fade but Ryan gave him a typically strong ride, never giving up and to be fair to the horse, he stayed on in the closing stages. Ryan commented afterwards that the horse resented the kick back and did not want to face it at all.
