This racy daughter of Invincible Spirit looked sure to be an impact as a two year old but unfortunately suffered an early setback and only started training properly in the middle of the season. She made rapid progress and was ready to make her debut in September but ran far too freely to do herself justice although she put up a much better performance next time.
Scarcity ran a perfectly respectable race at Newbury on 1st July in what turned out to be a pretty hot handicap. She was well behaved beforehand and travelled nicely towards the rear of the field with only three or four behind her. The pace in the race was very slow which didn’t help her cause, so when they sprinted for home she was caught a little flat-footed but she stuck to her task well in the final furlong and under hands and heals urgings from Ted Durcan she was closing all the time and only just missed out on fourth place by a neck.
Scarcity was a little stiff following her run at Newbury so Ed gave her an easy few days before stepping her back up to faster work and should be ready to run again in early August.
